Biography

Mapped Currents is where I share projects, notes, and analysis on flood mapping, geospatial data, and water resources management in Canada and beyond

I work where flood modelling, geospatial data, and public-interest mapping meet. Most of my work is about turning complex hazard and disaster information into something more usable — through national-scale mapping programs, technical guidance, open datasets, and practical geospatial tools.

I am an engineer specialized in hydrological and hydraulic modelling, flood mapping, and geospatial analysis. Before focusing more directly on flood risk in Canada, I spent more than 15 years working on water resources projects internationally, including roles as Project Director and technical lead with Cowater. That work took me across a wide range of contexts: water supply and flood mapping in the Sahel, post-earthquake infrastructure assessments in Haiti, decentralized wastewater management in remote Alaskan communities, hydraulic modelling in Pakistan, large-scale mobile surveys for water infrastructure assessments in Jordan, and other assignments across Africa, the Middle East, Asia, North America, and the Caribbean.

In recent years, I shifted my focus closer to home with Aquasphera, where I worked on flood analysis, stormwater management, drainage, erosion control, and river modelling with public- and private-sector partners in Canada. I now work with Natural Resources Canada’s Canada Centre for Mapping and Earth Observation (CCMEO) as an Engineering Advisor in flood modelling, supporting national-scale programs and research initiatives to advance flood mapping across Canada.

Outside of work, I enjoy applying geospatial analysis and data science tools to practical water-related problems, especially flood-related ones. Away from maps and models, I enjoy chess, woodworking, and time with my family.
